The Challenge
A VC10 aircraft needed to be moved from one area of the RAF museum in Cosford to another. The nose of the aircraft alone weighted over 70t and it needed to be moved 150m away from its starting point.
On top of working to strict deadlines, the area we were working in was open to the public. There were no questions over whether the job could be done, it had to happen.
The Solution
We laid 165 panels of aluminium roadway as planned and agreed ahead of time. To make sure we had enough time to solve any potential challenges on site, we laid the trackway the day before the move. This then meant that everything was in place as soon as our customer was ready to move the VC10 and there weren’t any delays.
We also kept a crew of installation engineers on site during the move in case the aircraft wasn’t as easy to manoeuvre as it was hoped, and any extra panels were needed. Our team remaining on site gave our customer peace of mind that we were on hand if there were any contingencies.
“Trackway Solutions gave outstanding service from the first email right through to the end of the task. When we went to tender, they were the only company to offer a site survey prior to placing a quote and once we gave the team a brief of our requirements, they just got on with the task.”
